About the Role

The primary responsibility of this position is to perform inspector audits, outgoing quality audits, system performance audits, NADCAP audits, stamp audits, and certification audits. Additional duties include addressing customer complaints related to NDT issues, investigating inspector escapers, conducting eye examinations, performing engineering evaluations, assisting in on-the-job training of new inspectors, and contributing to cost reduction projects. The role requires close collaboration with the Responsible Level 3 to determine appropriate courses of action for specification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform outgoing quality audits for Visual Inspection, Dimensional Inspection, Film X-Ray inspection, Digital X-Ray inspection, Penetrant inspection, and Magnetic Particle inspection.
  • Perform engineering evaluations to provide detailed information on casting quality for internal and external customers.
  • Conduct at least one annual assessment audit of every shooter, reader, FPI inspector, FPI processer, and Magnetic Particle inspector.
  • Investigate all customer escapes and concerns within 48 hours of notification from the quality department, and assist in these investigations as needed.
  • Write reports for the Quality department on the results of escape investigations.
  • Perform annual eye exams for inspectors.
  • Conduct annual or semiannual process audits for FPI, X-ray, Digital X-ray, Visual, Dimensional, and Magnetic Particle inspections.
  • Assist with NADCAP audits.
  • Support NDT trainers during their absence (e.g., vacation or other functions).
  • Perform stamp audits.
  • Interface with customers in a professional manner.
  • Identify potential areas for cost reductions.
  • Assist manufacturing during end-of-quarter throughput requirements.
  • Write and assist in administering root cause and corrective action forms.
  • Perform root cause and corrective actions on process breakdowns.
  • Conduct grain etch evaluations and reporting.

Requirements

  • Must be certified in the primary NDT discipline required for the role (e.g., X-ray, Digital X-ray, FPI, Visual Inspection, or Dimensional Inspection). In certain cases, multiple certifications may be required.
  • Preferably certified in multiple NDT disciplines, including X-ray, Digital X-ray, FPI, Visual Inspection, and Dimensional Inspection.
  • Must have completed 8 hours of auditor training and performed 2 practice audits with a certified auditor/trainer.
  • Must have at least 6-7 years of actual inspection experience with minimal escapes or quality issues.
  • Considerable knowledge of NDT principles and familiarity with NDT methods beyond those currently used at the facility.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to apply and adapt a wide variety of technical procedures under general direction and complete work independently.
  • Ability to develop work instructions for X-ray, Visual, Dimensional, and FPI inspections.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, evaluate, and coordinate major projects.
  • May be required to complete hazardous waste management training.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
