NDT Technician - Ultrasonic (UT) - Level III - C Shift (Weekend Day Shift)

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. About the role

As part of a hardworking team of Nondestructive Testing specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will perform development and production activities involving Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on assuring part integrity, quality, and lifespan. This position primarily involves Ultrasonic inspection of flight-critical metallic and/or composite flight hardware and test samples.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
• Perform inspections using Ultrasonic equipment
• Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria identified on drawing or shop work order
• Document and organize inspection results
• Interface and communicate with Engineers and/or Managers to describe inspection results

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Level 2 experience in ultrasonics
• Must be able to pass Ultrasonic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (General Test study materials will be provided if needed)
• Must meet the minimum training requirements per NAS-410 in Ultrasound
• Qualify to certify to level II status per NAS-410 requirements in Ultrasound with a minimum of 800 hours of documented experience
• Meet minimum Vision Requirements:
  • Near Vision: Either 20/25 (Snellen) at 16" or Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12”
  • Color Perception: 14 Plate Ishihara Color Test with a minimum of 12 panels correctly identified
• Familiarity with the requirements defined in:
  • ASTM E164 Standard Practice for Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Weldments
  • ASTM E2700 Standard Practice for Contact Ultrasonic Testing of Welds Using Phased Arrays
  • ASTM E2375 Standard Practice for Ultrasonic Testing of Wrought Products
• Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations for inspection activity
• Experience in analyzing resultant data from metallic and composite structures
• Experience in analyzing Thru-Transmission Ultrasonics of sandwich composite structures
• Experience in pulse echo composites inspection
• Experience in Bond Testing
• Experience in composite repair inspection
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
• Experience with MS Office products is required
• Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and off shifts as needed to meet critical deadlines
• Ability to work off shifts
• Ability to lift and transport parts and/or inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
• Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
• Comfortable working off platforms, scissor lifts, and/or aerial boom lifts

Desired

• Advanced Phased Array Training
• Thermography Training (Level I and II)
• Certification as a radiographer for X-ray by a state or certifying entity (such as ASNT, IRRSP)
• Ability to meet the minimum training requirements per NAS-410 in other methods including Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle
• Ability to certify in one or more of the following methods per NAS-410: Radiography, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Infrared, Terahertz, or Laser Shearography
• 40 hours of Radiation Safety Training
• 40 hours of Digital Radiography Training
• Training in Computed and Digital Radiography
• Knowledge of industry NDT standards
• Experience in a production environment, preferably in aerospace
• Experience with automated/robotic inspection equipment
• 1+ years of aerospace experience

Schedule

C Shift: Friday - Sunday (5:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
