NDT Responsible Level III/ Department Manager
About the Role
Element has an opportunity for a NDT Responsible Level III. You will be responsible for training and certifying Level I’s and II’s, writing and approving procedures applicable to NDT, reviewing and verifying specification revisions, and interpreting blueprints and customer requirements to verify product acceptance using NDT methods including Fluorescent Penetrant (FPI) and Magnetic Particle (MPI).
Responsibilities
- Write, approve, and maintain all internal procedures for the NDT department.
- Write and/or approve all techniques for the NDT department.
- Train and maintain training records for all Level I’s and Level II’s.
- Test and ensure all Levels are up to current statuses.
- Review all new specifications and revisions to ensure internal procedures comply.
- Interact with customers during audits and visits; explain all technical information as needed.
- Inspect product using supplied acceptance criteria from customers.
- With minimal supervision, set up and perform all Level III duties.
- Ensure that work area, hardware, tools, equipment, and supplies are organized and clean.
- Perform any job within NDT and answer questions during an audit with a customer.
- Responsible for the department's safety performance and awareness; spearhead and manage initiatives that drive a culture of safety first.
- Under the direction of the Operations Manager and/or General Manager, help lead the efficient operation and growth of the assigned department.
- Plan, assign, and schedule work for designated staff.
- Assist in the engineering and coordination of projects from start to finish.
- Assure quality, timeliness, consistency, and accuracy of test reports.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Element capabilities, processes, and expertise to clearly explain the benefits of Element testing services.
- Represent Element with integrity and professionalism.
- Promote and ensure the Element quality assurance and safety program initiatives are executed upon.
- Responsible and accountable for assigned staff decisions including hiring, performance management, performance reviews, and approval of overtime and time cards.
- Work with assigned staff to ensure work schedules are maintained and balanced.
- Maintain an environment of respect and dignity within the department.
- Manage a team with fairness and consistency, taking interest in the development of direct reports.
- Provide general administrative functions as required (invoicing, job list upkeep, supply report data).
- Review testing services and promote additional capacity and process improvement.
- Translate technical requirements of the client into pricing, timing, and technical knowledge for quoting and commercial efforts.
Requirements
- Level III is the highest certifiable qualification level.
- Must have the skills and knowledge to perform specific tests, specific calibrations, and inspect and interpret flaws on a product.
- Must be able to write and maintain written procedures, test trainees to obtain levels within the department, and write and approve all techniques for both disciplines.
- Must be trained by an outsourced trainer in accordance with NAS410 and SNT-TC-1A requirements and PTI’s internal procedures.
- Must be capable of following verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to collect data and make observations and recommendations.
- Capable of training Level I’s, Level II’s, and entry-level packers and unpackers.
- Must be able to read blueprints for processing instructions and training.
Skills
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
- Reasoning ability to train and maintain records of trainees.
Qualifications
- NAS410 and SNT-TC-1A Level III certification.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversees Level I and Level II Inspectors.
Physical Demands
- Lifting of up to 25 lbs. is expected; mechanical aids are available for weights over 25 lbs.
- Exposure to mild alkaline and acidic-based detergents and organic solvents.
