About the role

Lutheran Hospital's General Surgery 5D Unit offers a unique opportunity to support bariatric, neurology, spinal, and orthopedic surgery patients. You will be part of a team dedicated to providing comprehensive care.

Responsibilities

• Provide support with patient daily living activities and room maintenance
• Aid in performing EKGs, monitoring blood glucose levels, collecting specimens, and documenting vital signs
• Assist with organizing patient care assignments
• Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of units, including patient/unit equipment
• Prepare rooms for patient admissions and clean and maintain patient/unit equipment
• Report any problems immediately to the RN and make hourly patient rounds to ensure safety measures are in place

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hire period
• Basic math skills and ability to read and write
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Certification preferred
• Previous nursing assistance experience preferred
• Physical requirements: Full range of body motion, handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, frequent standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, squatting, bending/stooping, lifting patients, occasional exertion of 20 to 50 pounds, frequent exertion of 10 to 25 pounds, and constant exertion of up to 10 pounds

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: High School Diploma/GED, Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, Basic math skills, ability to read and write

Skills

• Ability to organize and manage patient care tasks
• Knowledge of patient safety protocols
• Basic medical terminology and understanding of patient care documentation
