About the role

Lutheran Hospital's General Surgery 5D Unit offers a unique opportunity to support bariatric, neurology, spinal, and orthopedic surgery patients. You will be part of a team dedicated to providing comprehensive care.

Responsibilities

• Support with patient daily living activities and room maintenance
• Aid with various patient care tasks, collaborating with healthcare teams
• Organize patient care assignments for timely delivery and completion
• Document care provided in patient records and label specimens correctly
• Assess patient needs for pain and report to RN/LPN as necessary
• Maintain units and patient equipment in orderliness and cleanliness
• Clean and prepare patient rooms for admissions
• Perform EKGs, monitor blood glucose levels, collect specimens, and document vital signs
• Ensure safety measures are in place during hourly rounds, including activating bed alarms

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within the new hire period
• Basic math skills and ability to read/write
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Certification preferred
• Previous nursing assistance experience preferred
• Physical requirements: Full range of body motion, handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, squatting, bending/stooping, lifting patients, occasional heavy lifting (20-50 lbs), frequent medium lifting (10-25 lbs), and constant light lifting (up to 10 lbs)
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
• Follows standard precautions and uses personal protective equipment as required
