Job Summary

The Land Development Engineer will lead and support the design and coordination of commercial, residential, and mixed-use development projects. This position involves full project involvement, from conceptual design through construction documents, with a focus on grading, utilities, drainage, and site layout, with an emphasis on quality, constructability, and client communication. This position requires technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • EIT certification required; PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 1 year.

Required Expertise

  • 5–10 years of experience in land development design and project management.
  • Strong understanding of grading, drainage, and utility design principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a client-focused approach.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design tools.
  • PMP Certification preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the design and production of land development plans including grading, utilities, and stormwater systems.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, including survey, CAD, and construction personnel to deliver complete and accurate project documents.
  • Oversee preparation of feasibility studies, land plans, one-lines, engineering cost estimates, preliminary and final construction drawings, bid forms, technical specifications and related documentation.
  • Serve as the primary client contact, developing and maintaining relationships throughout project delivery.
  • Conduct plan reviews to ensure quality control and compliance with jurisdictional standards.
  • Support permitting efforts with local and state agencies.
  • Provide project budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning to include preparation of proposals for new projects.
  • Mentor and support junior engineering and design staff.
  • Lead project meetings and maintain consistent communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Participate in proposal development, scope writing, and client presentations.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
