NCD Manager - US West, Network and Cable Decom Manager
About the role
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Network & Cable Decommissioning Manager to join their team. The role involves working directly with engineers and managers to support and scale as-built designs for data centers in the Oregon region. Responsibilities include managing and developing a team, ensuring non-impactful and timely removal of existing fiber optic & copper inside plant areas, collaborating with internal stakeholders, identifying and responding to risks, and supporting new product introduction activities.
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop a team of NW/Cable Decommissioning engineers and techs
- Ensure non-impactful and timely removal of existing fiber optic & copper inside plant areas, as required.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define plans and processes to achieve required capacity and network requirements via decommissioning efforts.
- Partner with peer leaders within the ISP organization to create and perpetuate a true lifecycle approach to standardizing and maintaining internal cabling throughout the data center environments.
- Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues; leading high-profile/visibility projects, as required, to enable new capacity and services.
- Support New Product Introduction activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce cost and installation time; obsessing over reducing risk and legacy constraints inherent in existing facilities.
- Travel 20% or more to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at AWS data centers
Requirements
- Associate's degree or above
- 5+ years of engineering work managing large-scale services experience
- Experience working with KPIs and SLAs
- Experience operating a mission-critical team or product
- 5+ years of work in a management position with 5 or more direct reports experience
Qualifications
- 5+ years of work in data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation experience
- Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
Skills
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Experience with data center operations and maintenance
- Strong problem-solving and risk management skills
