NC Grinder Operator

About the Division
Located in Strongsville, the 110+ employee facility (100,000 sq. ft.) is one of Héroux-Devtek’s centers of excellence for the final assembly of landing gear. As part of the Central Division, you will contribute to critical machining operations for major commercial aircraft programs such as the Boeing 777 and Embraer E-2, as well as important military programs including the F-18, F-35, C-17, and C-130. The division focuses on the latest manufacturing technologies, including machining automation, to remain a best-value producer of complex landing gear components.
Responsibilities
- Follow work instructions and blueprints to operate a Sunnen ID Honer or cylindrical grinder to bring steel landing gear parts to tolerance.
- Adjust dial to set the angle of the workpiece to the horizontal grinding wheel.
- Dress the wheel manually or with a preset device.
- Position the workpiece on a faceplate, magnetic chuck, or in chuck jaws using wrenches.
- Set grinding wheel speed, work surface speed, and workpiece table travel rate based on knowledge of metal properties and abrasives.
- Position and tighten stops to set the depth of the grinding wheel cut and stroke of the workpiece table.
- Utilize both automatic and manual controls to feed the wheel.
- Use measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, and gage blocks to confirm tolerances.
- Size and micro-finish/hand grind as needed to achieve blueprint dimensions.
- Document and maintain traceability in accordance with quality standards such as AS9100 and NADCAP.
- Dress the grinding wheel to a specified profile for contour grinding using special features and tools, if required.
- Operate tracer attachments to duplicate contours from templates or models, if required.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in manual machining.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience running ID/OD or centerless grinders.
- Must meet security screening requirements as set out by ITAR directives.
