Natural Resources Specialist (Ranger).

About the role

This position enforces Title 36 CFR by educating the visiting public on the purposes of the dam and lake, conservation measures, environmental features, and Corps policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Patrols public lands and waters to prevent unauthorized use, trespass, destruction of natural, cultural, or historic resources or government property; to ensure compliance with rules and regulations; and for the protection of public lands and waters.
• Investigates violations, issues citations, and testifies in court.
• Conducts public education and interpretive services for the general public and for special groups.
• Assists with specification, development and administration of law enforcement contracts.
• Assists in developing and implementing specific land use plans while integrating public use with fish, wildlife, vegetation, soil, air, park and water resources management.
• Participates in the development of various planning documents including Master Plans and Operational Management Plans (OMP), for management of natural and park resources.

Requirements

• Valid state driver's license required.
• Must be able to obtain a Corps of Engineers boat operator's license.
• Must be able to obtain Title 36 citation authority.
• Position requires employee to wear uniform and/or protective clothing.
• Position may require being on call, working weekends, holidays, nights and/or shift work.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR courses equivalent to a major in these fields plus appropriate experience or additional education.

GS-9 Level: One year of specialized experience which includes administering natural resources and/or outdoor recreation programs and enforcement of park rules and regulations, such as campground reservations, fee collection; park maintenance, such as fire ring maintenance, campground cleaning; and park rules enforcement. OR a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position (biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines). OR a combination of education and experience.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, transcripts will be required.

Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalency to accredited U.S. education programs.
