About the role

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) seeks energetic, passionate individuals to join its Natural Resources Officer (NRO) team. This role involves enforcing laws to protect the environment and wildlife, as well as ensuring the safety of those who use state lands and waterways.

Responsibilities

  • Perform law enforcement tasks such as patrolling and enforcing laws on state waterways, state parks, state forests and scenic rivers and natural preserves.
  • Conduct safety inspections on recreational vessels and educate the public, recreation and conservation groups regarding watercraft use and safety.
  • Provide media interviews and present information & education programs regarding vessel safety and natural resources conservation.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in core program areas such as natural resources or criminal justice/law enforcement.
  • 18 months training or 18 months experience in natural resources or criminal justice/law enforcement.
  • Ability to pass fitness and swim tests.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • 21 years of age.
  • U.S. Citizen.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Course or Ohio Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Academy Course.
  • Military experience in roles such as military police, security forces, investigative services, or intelligence.
