National Commercial Underwriter

About the role

Old Republic National Title Insurance Company seeks an experienced National Commercial Underwriter in its national commercial office in Chicago. In this role, you will underwrite title insurance policy coverages for commercial real estate transactions, assist national commercial escrow officers in closing transactions, and negotiate policy coverage and endorsement coverage for owner’s and loan title insurance policies. You will also serve as a resource for salespeople and their clients regarding title insurance and real estate questions.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite title insurance policy coverages for commercial real estate transactions.
• Assist national commercial escrow officers in closing transactions.
• Negotiate policy coverage and endorsement coverage for the issuance of owner’s and loan title insurance policies.
• Serve as a resource for salespeople and their clients on title insurance and real estate questions.
• Work on several transactions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years' experience underwriting and closing single and multi-site commercial transactions for properties located nationwide.
• Solid understanding of endorsement and policy coverages, including experience negotiating these coverages with principals and their attorneys.
• Working knowledge of state-by-state title insurance guidelines and real estate practices, including endorsement availability, policy availability, transfer tax, mortgage tax, and forms of conveyance.
• Outstanding customer service skills and ability to work professionally and collegially in a team environment.
• JD required.

Pay

Position's pay range: $120,000 – $150,000. This position is typically eligible for bonus-based incentive compensation at the Company’s discretion. Factors that may determine the actual pay rate include education, training, experience, seniority, merit, work performance, quantity or quality of production, regional differences, local minimum wages, or ability and effort.
