About the Role
Lakeside Behavioral Health System is the premier provider of specialized behavioral health and addictive disease services in the Memphis and Mid-South region. The 365-bed facility is one of the largest free-standing psychiatric hospitals in the United States, located on a serene 37-acre campus. The Community Counselor creates a safe environment for patients, provides hope, empowers patients, and teaches new tools for coping. This role provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, focusing on a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, and activities of daily living.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Create and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
- Perform crisis intervention as needed.
- Assist with activities of daily living for patients.
- Implement psychiatric group processes and therapeutic relationship techniques.
- Apply knowledge of age-specific growth and development, limit setting, behavior management, and crisis management with aggressive behaviors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or a related field highly preferred; or high school diploma with 1 year of relevant experience in the psychiatric field.
- One year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness preferred.
- Knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships, age-specific growth and development, limit setting, behavior management, and crisis management.
