This role coordinates programmatic services to support the academic success, persistence, and graduation of first-generation students. The Program Specialist develops, implements, and assesses targeted programs and support services addressing academic, financial, cultural, and social barriers.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and identify qualified eligible student participants.
- Conduct initial intake interviews and complete related paperwork.
- Arrange for and conduct initial and advanced assessments.
- Develop programming around navigating college systems, such as academic advising, financial aid, and registration processes.
- Identify and monitor the academic performance of participants; develop intervention plans for those not making satisfactory progress.
- Develop and conduct instructional workshops on topics related to program requirements.
- Create family engagement materials and workshops to help first-generation students and their families understand the college experience and support academic success.
- Track first-generation student retention, GPA, course success, and engagement metrics.
- Assist participants with course selections.
- Maintain participant files and records.
- Develop and maintain targeted communication plans (e.g., email, social media, newsletters, website) to inform students of program opportunities, deadlines, and support services.
- Maintain the program website.
- Attend required training programs.
- Supervise the production of brochures, newsletters, and forms.
- Conduct required audits to meet departmental goals and objectives.
- Assist with filing Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Leadership, Counseling, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in retention or academic success programs.
- Valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma (or ability to readily obtain one).
Skills
- Knowledge of federal grant regulations.
- Knowledge of the principles of academic advisement.
- Proficiency in operating computers and job-related software programs (e.g., student information systems, data analysis tools, communication platforms).
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal relations and public interaction skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with student support tracking systems.
- Experience maintaining web pages and social media platforms.

Pay
Annual salary of $34,356.00.
