This position provides financial aid counseling to university students.
Responsibilities
- Processes student financial aid applications; reviews supporting documents.
- Monitors daily/weekly reports, identifies discrepancies, and takes necessary actions.
- Researches student files using online resources.
- Prepares student awards and determines and applies account corrections.
- Counsels students on types of financial aid, financial aid policies, and satisfactory academic progress requirements.
- Uses professional judgement to determine potential aid eligibility within the allowances of policy, procedures, and law.
- Responds to questions and concerns from students, parents, or guardians.
- Certifies loans from alternative sources.
- Requests documents from students to complete the financial aid process.
- Completes documents requested by external sources.
- Collaborates with campus departments on student eligibility, scholarships, and other types of aid.
- Travels to area high schools and makes presentations concerning financial aid processes and procedures.
- Places non-attending students into repay process; calculates and processes repayments.
- Enters budget information into the BANNER system.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of extensive onboarding modules, as well as regular participation in federal, state, and professional trainings.
- Knowledge of financial aid and related federal regulations.
- Knowledge of data analysis and reporting.
- Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to incorporate confidentiality into every aspect of the job.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
