The professional role of the Registered Nurse (RN) is guided by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model. Our practice framework emphasizes autonomy, accountability, and evidence-based care with the patient and family at the center.

Responsibilities

Standards of Practice

• Assessment: Collect pertinent data and information relative to the healthcare consumer's health or situation.
• Diagnosis: Analyze assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnoses or issues.
• Outcomes Identification: Identify expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the healthcare consumer or situation.
• Planning: Develop and modify a plan of care that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes.
• Implementation: Implement the identified plan, including coordination of care delivery and transitions in care.
• Health Teaching and Health Promotion: Employ strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
• Evaluation: Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
• Certification: Current BCLS certification (must obtain within one month of hire if not already certified).
• Licensure: Licensed and currently registered as a nurse in the State of Connecticut. Clinical specialty certification highly encouraged.
• Experience: All RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical advancement program.

Physical Demands

• Prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, and lifting.
• Must assist in pushing, pulling, or lifting patients ranging from 5 to 300 pounds.
• Exposure to infectious diseases, physical, mental, and emotional illness, as well as end-of-life conditions and death.
• Moderate stress and risk of injury from patient care.

This position is covered by the Connecticut Healthcare Associates collective bargaining agreement.
