The Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) was established in 1951 by Corning Glass Works (now Corning Incorporated) as a gift to the nation commemorating the company’s 100th anniversary. CMoG is an independent not-for-profit museum dedicated to exploring a single material: glass. Glass is a versatile, ancient material that is still being explored and understood by artists, scientists, and historians today. The story of glass is a story about art, history, culture, technology, science, craft, and design. 50,000+ objects representing more than 3,500 years of history are included in the Museum’s collection—ranging from a portrait of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh to a 200-inch telescope lens to contemporary sculpture. The Museum regularly publishes journals, educational videos, and scholarly publications—many of which can be accessed online from anywhere in the world.

About the Role

This is an onsite, full-time position in Corning, NY. The MYOG (Make Your Own Glass) Workshop Associate will work directly with guests in our world-renowned glassmaking studios, guiding them through engaging glassmaking experiences and helping them create one-of-a-kind keepsakes while ensuring a safe, welcoming, and memorable environment.

Responsibilities

• Create Unforgettable Guest Experiences:
  • Guide guests one-on-one through furnace glassblowing and/or flameworking projects.
  • Help guests create a variety of glass objects, including ornaments, flowers, pumpkins, vessels, paperweights, beads, and pendants.
  • Support longer, immersive experiences by coaching guests through every stage of creating a blown glass vessel.
  • Lead or assist with sandblasting, engraving, fused glass, and other specialty projects as trained.
  • Teach and facilitate glassmaking activities across Studio programs as needed.
  • Host Studio social and public events.
• Keep the Workshop Running Smoothly:
  • Process finished glass pieces from creation through annealing, packaging, labeling, and shipment or guest pickup.
  • Prepare materials, maintain equipment, and help ensure workshops are clean, organized, and operating efficiently.
  • Open and close the MYOG Workshop as needed.
  • Monitor inventory and assist with workshop supply management.
  • Maintain exceptional safety standards while working around hot glass and specialized equipment.
• Support the Studio Community:
  • Help foster an engaging, educational, and inclusive environment for guests, artists, instructors, and fellow team members.
  • Support programs that expand access and grow the diversity of The Studio community.
  • Assist with implementing new programs, systems, and operational improvements.
  • Contribute to Museum initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with glassblowing and/or flameworking, including safely operating related equipment.
• Ability to work directly with beginner guests while maintaining a safe and enjoyable experience.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with sandblasting, glass fusing, engraving, or related equipment.
• Experience shipping artwork or learning shipping software.

Pay

$18.25–$20.00 per hour.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Regularly required to move about, operate/use equipment, communicate, detect/distinguish, and reach.
• Position requires sustained repetitive motion.
• Occasionally required to remain in a stationary position, ascend/descend, and detect/distinguish (impaired olfactory sense is potentially problematic for workplace safety).
• Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish color and adjust focus.
• Frequently required to move/transport up to 50 pounds.
• Work environment is regularly controlled by indoor climate and extreme heat (non-weather).
• Occasionally indoors not climate controlled, wet, humid, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, odors, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and vibration.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
