About the Role
Incumbent is assigned to one or more specialized recreational activities such as Community Activities, ITT Office, Campsites/Cottages, Arts & Crafts, Fitness/Athletics, Golf Course, Skeet Range, Youth Activities, Bowling Centers & Stables. May oversee sale of retail items associated with activities. Ensures adherence to safety rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Performs and/or assists in the operation of the recreation activity, including establishing schedules, applying rules and regulations, setting up facilities, and conducting tours and field trips.
- Demonstrates procedures and instructs participants in the use of equipment; conducts instructional classes in the recreational area.
- Plans, coordinates, and maintains supplies for recreational activities; assists in scheduling and publicizing activities to attract participants.
- Provides customer service and support for Community Recreation programs, including checking patron eligibility, providing program information, and managing facility operations.
- Collects fees for tickets, retail items, rentals, classes, and trips using Point of Sale (POS) systems; completes Daily Activity Reports (DAR) and processes customer registrations.
- Manages equipment check-out, rental fees, inspections, and inventory; notifies supervisors of damage or loss.
- Assists in administering workshops, clinics, and events (e.g., camping, cycling, sailing, skiing, hiking, water sports) and provides day/weekend recreation experiences.
- Performs administrative duties, including event reporting, data collection, and program metrics tracking using computer software.
- Assists with recruitment, training, and scheduling of Community Recreation staff; supports EEO principles and policies.
- Plans, coordinates, publicizes, and executes MWR programs and special events; updates electronic and multimedia tools for promotion.
- Develops partnerships with on- and off-base organizations (e.g., park districts, clubs) to support MWR programs; performs community outreach.
- Researches and provides information on recreational opportunities for individuals and families on and off the base.
- Adheres to NAVMED P-5010 sanitation requirements; initiates maintenance trouble calls for equipment/facility issues.
- Supports event setup and breakdown; performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and pass a background investigation (fingerprint identification and background inquiry forms).
- Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check; discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Irregular working hours may be required, including early/late shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays; subject to recall.
- Must wear protective clothing and equipment as situations warrant.
- Must have or obtain within 90 days of hire:
- A valid state driver’s license to transport patrons off-base.
- C.A.R.E. (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively) training.
- Emergency First Responder (EFR) or CPR First Aid certification.
- Food Handler certification.
- Combination of experience in customer service and/or recreation activity-based functions.
- Ability to organize, plan, and administer special events and entertainment activities; must work independently and make sound decisions.
- Knowledge of goals, principles, techniques, and procedures for organizing and conducting leisure activities.
- Familiarity with the Navy MWR mission and Community Recreation activities, including suitability for diverse individuals and groups.
- Strong customer service skills; ability to maintain records, compile data, and perform research on recreation topics.
- Proficiency in computers, office procedures, and print production; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
