Music Publisher & Engraver – Internship

About the role

This position spreads the message of the restored Church of Jesus Christ around the world through music. The role is part of the Publishing Services Department (PSD) and supports the production, management, and publication of all music content for the Church. Core projects include the new Hymns collection, Youth Theme music, Magazine music, Temple dedication arrangements, and others. The music publishing team provides engraved sheet music, curates online databases for Church music libraries, and assists with archival and restoration activities.

This internship focuses on transitioning language files from Finale to Dorico. While not writing or engraving original music or participating in audio recordings, the role requires critical engraving problem-solving skills to ensure proper preservation of sheet music during the system transition.

The ideal candidate has previous engraving experience, high music literacy, understanding of vocal and instrumental styles, knowledge of global music styles in print and performance, and a flexible, creative mindset for collaboration and problem-solving.

This role is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, with a hybrid work schedule requiring some in-office days.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain sheet music assets for the Church in all approved languages (80% of time). Migrate the active library from Finale to Dorico while developing the new Hymns collection in multiple languages.
• Understand and address complexities in the Church music publishing process, including multi-channel music language production (15% of time). Follow established processes for publishing music content across multiple channels.
• Work within multilevel approval structures to maintain appropriate music quality standards (5% of time). Collaborate with the publishing team to meet client expectations and deliver high-quality, timely products.

Requirements

• Working towards a degree in music, music education, music production, or a related field.
• Experience in music engraving demonstrated through a professional portfolio.
• Fluency in music notation software (e.g., Dorico, Finale, Sibelius).
• Basic understanding of MusicXML markup language and music engraving principles.
• Basic understanding of publishing music in foreign languages and its relation to rhythm and meter.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, awareness of database software, and strong written English skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively while managing individual responsibilities independently.
