About the Department

The Music & Creative Arts Department advocates, inspires, equips, and disciples worshippers and creative individuals through diverse artistic expressions. Its mission is to develop music and arts leaders, empower the North & Central Illinois Division, serve as a consistent and relevant resource, and lead missional engagement through music and the arts.

About the Role

This position works with children and adults in the Corps and community to plan and implement music and creative arts programs. Responsibilities include teaching music theory, performance (brass, vocal, guitar, piano, ukulele, etc.), and creative arts (dance, drama, theatre, visual arts) based on the needs of the Corps. The Let The Music Begin (LTMB) program aims to assist, resource, equip, and enhance the Corps’ Sunday worship and music and arts programs, reinforcing the mission and vision of the Music & Creative Arts Department.

Responsibilities

• Educate and train future leaders in Music and Creative Arts ministry within The Salvation Army.
• Teach and spread the Gospel to young people through music and creative arts.
• Begin each class with a prayer and scripture verse.
• Lead or assist in music or arts programs within schools and/or Corps as assigned.
• Implement lesson plans and curriculum provided by the corps music director, lead music teacher, LTMB Manager, or DMCA.
• Collaborate with corps leadership to plan LTMB recitals and prepare the corps music program for the annual LTMB concert.
• Encourage participants to develop musical abilities, achieve goals, and build self-esteem through skill development.
• Promote positive activities that increase school/program pride and community awareness of the Corps’ purpose.
• Encourage participation in summer camps to further develop talents and foster spiritual growth.
• Gain knowledge of Salvation Army music programs and maintain compliance with “Safe from Harm” Certification.
• Maintain a positive work environment through conflict management, professional communication, and courteous behavior.
• Perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of music experience working with children and/or adults.
• Bachelor’s Degree in music or related field preferred, or working toward a degree with extensive teaching experience.
• Proficiency in music theory and a primary instrument; performance experience preferred.
• Valid Driver’s license and MVR clearance.

• Heart for evangelism, knowledge of the Bible, and emotional and spiritual maturity.

Position Limitations

• Commit only to allocated or approved Army resources.
• Return all Salvation Army-owned equipment before the final paycheck is issued.
• Keep the Director of Music & Creative Arts, LTMB Manager, and Corps Officer informed of critical issues.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures related to the position.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Light physical work, including regular use of musical instruments and standard office equipment.
• Work environment includes a program setting with moderate to high noise levels.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere through professional communication and conflict resolution.

Pay

Pay Range: $18.11 - $21.74 per hour.
