About the role
The Music Director & Coach will work with students to musically prepare their scenes and large chorus numbers for the final performance. This person will also play for all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, final performances and any additional concerts.
Responsibilities
- Work with students to musically prepare their scenes and large chorus numbers for the final performance.
- Play for all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, final performances and any additional concerts.
- Must have familiarity with both classical vocal music styles as well as musical theatre and other contemporary styles.
- Must have a foundational understanding of the standard languages found in classical vocal music (Italian, French, German, and English.)
- Should be able to effectively communicate the proper pronunciation in these languages.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with students in a productive and positive way.
- Should be able to guide students to develop their musicianship skills throughout the process.
- Must be able to run an engaging large ensemble rehearsal (40+ students,) effectively teaching students their large ensemble/opera chorus numbers.
- Must be able to isolate voice parts & play open score.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with a team of artists.
- Will be communicating directly with the Stage Director, Coach, Voice Instructors, and the Youth Program Director.
- Should have experience working with students with varying levels of musicianship.
- Should understand the young voice and its limitations.
- Classroom management skills.
Requirements
- Must be available and on-site from 10:00 AM – 6 PM Monday - Friday from June 9th – July 25th.
- Must be available and on-site on July 25th until 11 PM for the final performance.
- Should be available for any auxiliary performances that involve the MMF Youth Program students.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with both classical vocal music styles as well as musical theatre and other contemporary styles.
- A foundational understanding of the standard languages found in classical vocal music (Italian, French, German, and English.)
