Music Counsel - Product Legal
for section headings (e.g., About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule)
2. Use - for any list of duties/requirements/benefits, and
for prose
3. Do NOT repeat the job title as a heading (the page already shows it)
4. Do NOT put Job ID / requisition numbers as headings — fold minor metadata into a short
or drop it
5. Preserve ALL substantive information; do NOT invent or summarize away detail
6. Remove cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate, duplicated lines, and application instructions
7. Include a section ONLY when the posting has real, specific content for it — never emit a heading followed by filler/placeholder text
8. Never create Pay/Schedule/Benefits sections unless the posting actually states them
9. Prefer a few substantive sections over many thin ones
10. Output ONLY the HTML fragment — no /, no markdown code fences
Let me analyze the job posting content:
The posting has:
- A description of the team/role (Global Product Legal, SoundOn music distribution platform)
- Responsibilities (list of 4 bullet points)
- Qualifications (Minimum Qualifications: 6 bullet points, Preferred Qualifications: 2 bullet points)
- About TikTok (company description)
- Why Join Us (company culture/mission)
- Diversity & Inclusion
- TikTok Accommodation (boilerplate - should remove)
- Job Information with Pay Transparency (salary range, benefits details)
I need to structure this into appropriate sections. The rules say to use specific heading names like "About the role", "Responsibilities", "Requirements", "Qualifications", "Skills", "Benefits", "Pay", "Schedule". But I should only include sections that have real content.
Let me map:
- The initial description about Global Product Legal and SoundOn role → "About the role" section
- Responsibilities list → "Responsibilities" section
- Minimum Qualifications → "Qualifications" section (or "Requirements"? The rules mention both "Requirements" and "Qualifications" as possible headings. I'll use "Qualifications" since that's what the posting calls it)
- Preferred Qualifications → could be part of Qualifications or separate. I'll include as sub-list under Qualifications.
- About TikTok → "About the company" or similar? The rules don't specify "About the company" but "About the role" is listed. I think "About TikTok" is company info, but the rules say use headings like "About the role". I'll include it as "About TikTok" since it's substantive.
- Why Join Us → could be "Benefits" or "Culture"? The rules mention "Benefits" as a heading. But this is more about company culture. However, the posting also has a separate Benefits section in Job Information. I'll combine.
- Diversity & Inclusion → could be part of company info or separate. Might be boilerplate but it's specific content.
- TikTok Accommodation → boilerplate, remove.
- Job Information with Pay Transparency → "Pay" and "Benefits" sections. The posting gives salary range and detailed benefits. So I should include "Pay" and "Benefits" sections.
The rules: "never create Pay/Schedule/Benefits sections unless the posting actually states them." The posting does state them in detail.
Also: "Do NOT repeat the job title as a heading (the page already shows it)" - the job title isn't explicitly given but it's implied "Transactional Attorney, SoundOn Music Legal" or similar. I won't include a heading for title.
"Job ID / requisition numbers" - none present.
Now, I need to output only HTML fragment.
Let me structure:
About the role
Global Product Legal is the dedicated legal team for the product, operations, and engineering organization, covering product counseling, creator and industry partnerships, music rights, and AI development. We partner with business teams, legal specialists, and cross-functional partners to build strategies and execute on product and business initiatives, while navigating a complex regulatory environment and maintaining stakeholder trust. You will work with product, operations, and engineering from early planning through launch, helping deliver products and initiatives used by billions of people. TikTok is looking for a transactional attorney to join its fast-growing team of music lawyers in the United States to primarily support the “SoundOn” music distribution platform. This is an opportunity to partner with the SoundOn product team and music legal team colleagues to help shape and grow SoundOn’s suite of services as it expands its scope and geographic reach. The role may also assist in scaling music license coverage of TikTok, the world’s leading short video platform, the digital music streaming service TikTok Music, and other digital properties that feature music. This is a highly collaborative, on-site role that requires five days per week in the office located in New York, NY.
Responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate music distribution and various types of license agreements with independent artists and independent record labels for the SoundOn platform.
- Provide legal guidance to the SoundOn business and product teams with regard to structuring rights deals with artists and labels, and draft / negotiate related agreements, in connection with music rights administration (sound recordings, music publishing) and artist branding / endorsement arrangements.
- Providing ongoing review of and updates to SoundOn’s license agreement templates across various use cases.
- Draft and negotiate full catalogue music license agreements with record labels, aggregators, music publishers and performing rights and collective management organizations, for various owned and operated digital properties.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience drafting and negotiating agreements for the licensing, administration, and/or acquisition of recorded music and music publishing rights, including artist/talent recording services, label partnerships, multi-platform digital distribution rights, and publishing rights administration.
- Member in good standing of a U.S. state bar association (with ability to register as in-house counsel if working from a different jurisdiction).
- Excellent analytical, communication, drafting, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple matters simultaneously against tight deadlines.
- Ability to effectively manage stakeholder expectations and clearly articulate risk/benefit analyses with recommended solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with blanket sound recording and/or music publishing rights licenses in the digital music space.
- Prior in-house experience at a digital music service, music distributor, or streaming platform.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits
- Day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) savings plan with company match
- Paid parental leave
- Short-term and long-term disability coverage
- Life insurance
- Wellbeing benefits
- 10 paid holidays per year

- 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure)
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. The Company reserves the right to modify or change these benefits programs at any time, with or without notice.
I should remove the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance paragraph as it's legal boilerplate (scam-warning/legal boilerplate). The rules say remove "legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate". That paragraph is about criminal history and fair chance hiring - it's legal compliance boilerplate. I'll drop it.
Also, the "TikTok Accommodation" section is boilerplate - remove.
Now, check for duplicate lines: The mission statement appears twice (in About TikTok and Why Join Us). That's okay, it's in different sections.
The posting mentions "Job Information 【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Annually)" - I've captured that in Pay and Benefits.
The role is on-site, five days per week in New York, NY. That could be a "Schedule" section? The rules mention "Schedule" as a possible heading. The posting says "This is a highly collaborative, on-site role that requires five days per week in the office located in New York, NY." That's schedule info. I could include a "Schedule" section. But the rules say "never create Pay/Schedule/Benefits sections unless the posting actually states them." It does state schedule (on-site, five days/week). So I should include a Schedule section.
I'll add:
Schedule
This is a highly collaborative, on-site role that requires five days per week in the office located in New York, NY.
But note: the initial description already includes that sentence. I should avoid duplication. In the "About the role" section I included that sentence. If I create a separate Schedule section, I'd be duplicating. Better to keep it in About the role and not create a separate Schedule section, or move it to Schedule. The rules: "Preserve ALL substantive information; do NOT invent or summarize away detail." But also "Prefer a few substantive sections over many thin ones." Since the schedule info is just one sentence, I can keep
