About the role
This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library & Museum. The incumbent serves in a training capacity as a Museum Technician while performing a variety of technical duties in connection with the management of the museum collection, including inventorying, registration, documentation and digitization of museum objects. Duties also include exhibit work, public outreach and professional support within and outside the department.Responsibilities
As a Museum Technician, you will:- Work as an inventory team leader and ensure that inventory information is accurately and correctly recorded in the collections management system.
- Apply agency-wide and site-specific methods and standards for accessioning and cataloging, including numbering, description, object labeling, and other associated tasks for museum holdings.
- Complete artifact housing and storage assignments. Report actual or potential risks to holdings from environmental conditions, pests, leaks, and other threats. Assist local environmental monitoring and perform routine and complex preventive care and minor rehabilitative tasks.
- Use digital camera(s) and/or scanner(s), create clear, appropriate digital images for a wide variety of artifacts and collection records following standard museum and NARA guidelines.
- Respond (via letter, phone, electronically, or in person) to reference questions from staff, researchers, other institutions and the general public regarding museum objects and exhibits.
- Duties also include exhibit work, public outreach and professional support within and outside the department.
Qualifications
Specialized Experience
For the GS-5, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level. This experience must be related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience:- Following established procedures to ensure objects of historical or cultural significance are protected from environmental hazards, such as extreme temperature/humidity, mold, damaging lighting conditions, or pests.
- Assisting in cataloging or inventorying objects in museum collections.

- EDUCATION: Successful completion of 4 years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study, or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field. Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled.
- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent.

To qualify based on your education, you must submit a copy of your transcripts or equivalent. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.Experience
