About the role

Responsibilities

  • Aid in education programs and exhibit and collections management in support of museum operations.
  • Provide education and instruction to recruits to reinforce academic history instruction, support recruiting efforts through visitor outreach, and offer history education to permanent personnel to enhance morale and motivation.
  • Assist the Director and Curator by applying a practical knowledge of United States history, United States Marine Corps history, Parris Island history, and American military artifacts for use in formal and informal classes.
  • Assist museum and depot staff members and visiting researchers in obtaining information about artifacts.
  • Perform routine guide and docent duties, answer visitors' questions, give general information and directions, including orientation; welcome groups and prepare and deliver guided tours of the museum.

Requirements

You must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license. Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable suitability on a federal background check. The incumbent is subject to 24-hour recall to perform emergency response duties for, or during actual emergency operations. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Educating individuals or groups of people, developing presentations and lectures, and handling museum collection materials.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
