Museum Store Sales Associate, Part-Time
About the role
The part-time Museum Store Sales Associate engages in customer service, sales, and merchandising activities for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis Store. The associate completes daily merchandising tasks, conducts accurate cash register operations, and ensures timely opening and closing processes with consistent completion of daily paperwork. The role requires a flexible work schedule, including weekends and some evenings, and may involve assisting with other retail projects as directed by Store management.

Responsibilities
- Provides excellent sales and customer service by remaining positive and courteous consistently.
- Greets and welcomes everyone to the store, promoting museum-wide activities.
- Operates the cash register, resolves minor computer problems, and conducts accurate sales transactions.
- Maintains knowledge of store products to provide customer recommendations and drive sales.
- Demonstrates and engages with targeted products to encourage sales.
- Promotes and meets or exceeds Museum store sales goals.
- Opens and closes the store accurately, following all security guidelines, including counting money, completing paperwork, and performing computer functions.
- Assists in training new sales associates.
- Stays updated on technical changes and completes projects in a timely manner.
- Displays professionalism, teamwork, and patience when addressing concerns or solving problems.
- Assists in creating product displays as needed.
- Promotes Museum membership through upselling, sharing member discounts, and the Rex Rewards program.
- Monitors inventory, reports item damages and demos, and ensures low shrinkage.
- Available to work extended hours and special events, as well as attend sales and team meetings.
- Stays informed about current and upcoming exhibits and museum activities to provide knowledgeable information to customers.
Requirements
- Retail sales experience preferred; related sales or service experience considered.
- Basic understanding of business math and inventory control.
- Proven ability to operate a cash register and conduct accurate transactions.
- Outgoing, enthusiastic, professional, courteous, dependable, adaptable, organized, and efficient.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, child-centric environment that values diversity and inclusion.
- Special consideration given to multi-lingual applicants.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to view computer monitors, keyboards, and store inventory.
- Extensive communication with customers, visitors, and staff via face-to-face conversations.
- Ability to operate a cash register and document financial information accurately.
- Ability to navigate the museum’s physical plant and campus, including kneeling, sitting, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and tolerate indoor dust.
Schedule
Flexible part-time schedule, including weekends and some evenings. Availability for extended hours, special events, and sales or team meetings is required.
