Accountability

Reports directly to the Museum Store Manager.

Core Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist visitors by providing outstanding customer service and sharing general information about St. Joseph’s Indian School, the museum, and outreach programs.
  • Maintain daily coverage of the museum store(s), ensuring the store is open, organized, clean, and visually appealing.
  • Process retail transactions accurately using established cash-handling procedures (cash, credit/debit, and receipts, as applicable).
  • Support merchandising efforts including stocking, pricing/labeling, displays, and general store presentation.
  • Aid in inventory management including receiving, organizing, counting, and restocking merchandise; report low-stock items and needs to the Museum Store Manager.
  • Assist with purchasing support as directed (e.g., assist with buying, preparing information for reorders, organizing vendor materials).
  • Learn and support museum operations as needed to provide helpful, accurate information to guests and contribute to a positive visitor experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Museum Store Manager.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Customer service and/or retail experience required.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of guests.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle cash sales, count money, and make accurate change.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn point-of-sale (POS) and inventory systems.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to follow policies, procedures, and dress code requirements.

Physical Demands

• Repetitive use of hands/wrists for extended periods (cashiering, stocking, tagging). • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and walk for extended periods (up to 4+ hours/day). • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 pounds. • Driving may be required.

Expectations of Hours Worked

• 40 hours per week, with seasonal variation. • Must be available to work weekends and variable hours as scheduled.
