Museum Specialist (History)
About the role
This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. This position is located at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. The incumbent performs a variety of duties, including oversight for all objects and official records, in connection with the management of the library's museum collections. The incumbent also carries out individual research and/or exhibit projects and performs a variety of public service duties.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the accessioning and cataloging of the collections and maintains manual and automated collections inventories and file systems.
- Manage the proper conservation, preservation, and restoration of collections where assigned.
- Develop and implement improvements in utilizing space, identifies needs, and seeks solutions for additional space and equipment.
- Supervise the movement of objects, especially those used in an active public performance environment.
- Consider loan requests from outside sources and makes recommendations to colleagues regarding issues of the request and the safety of the objects.
Requirements
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications
- For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Custodial duties related to artifact registration and collections-based management in a museum setting.
- Experience with museum collections management databases.
- Managing incoming and outgoing loans of artifacts in a museum setting.
- For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Custodial duties related to artifact registration and collections-based management in a museum setting.
- Inventory control consisting of records, reports, and resolving inventory anomalies according to established SOPs and/or procedures.
- You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 2 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the position; (Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled.) OR
- You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
