About the role
The Gaston County Museum interprets the art and history of Gaston County and the region through education, preservation, and collection.
Responsibilities
- Greet museum visitors and provide an overview of current exhibits and attractions to maximize visitor experience.
- Record statistical data pertaining to visitation and guest interaction with exhibits.
- Answer and transfer incoming calls for staff.
- Maintain daily operations of the museum store by assisting shoppers, selling merchandise, stocking inventory, and performing other incidental duties.
- Monitor exhibits and displayed items via personal observation and remote cameras to ensure safety and security of museum collection pieces and loaned items.
- Open museum facilities and perform exhibit setup at the beginning of the day; secure the museum at closing by locking buildings and activating the alarm system.
- Provide guided tours and gallery talks as assigned and scheduled by the Community Engagement Manager.
- Assist staff in education programs, special events, and collection research projects as assigned.
- Assist in setting up for scheduled events and perform routine maintenance duties, including changing light bulbs, moving tables, and light gallery cleaning.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
- At least one year of experience working in customer service, preferably in a museum environment.
- Good writing and communication skills; willingness to speak to groups.
- Able to work a varying schedule and stand or sit for extended periods.
- Able to lift 25 lbs and climb stairs.
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening test prior to employment.
- If the position involves working with children, a criminal history record check conducted by the SBI is required.

Pay
Anticipated hiring range: $15.48 - $18.38 per hour.
