Key Responsibilities
- Experience Greeting and welcoming visitors, answering questions, and providing information about museum exhibits, programs and services.
- Answering and directing phone calls, responding to inquiries, and providing excellent customer service in person, by phone and email in a professional and timely manner.
- Conducting guided tours and assisting with educational and interpretive programs for diverse groups.
- Supporting special events, including planning, setup, execution, staffing, breakdown and guest assistance.
- Aiding in the creation of guest experience content for social media and digital platforms.
- Scheduling groups and maintaining the museum tour and event calendar ensuring accurate scheduling and communication.
- Aiding in volunteer recruitment and outreach activities.
- Collaborating with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth event operations and an excellent guest experience.
Operations and Administrative
- Opening and closing the museum according to established procedures, ensuring security and readiness for visitors.
- Maintaining clean, organized, and welcoming public spaces.
- Compiling attendance and visitor engagement reports.
- Assisting with weekly cash verification processes, monthly deposits, and ensuring accuracy in point-of-sale transactions.
- Operating and processing sales in the museum gift shop, assisting with inventory upkeep, restocking, and merchandising.
- Purchasing supplies and other items through the online purchasing system as directed.
- Entering event logistics into the event management system in a timely manner.
- Aids in the training of part-time guest experience specialists.
- Performing general office and administrative duties including data entry, filing, and internal/external document preparation.
- Performing other duties as assigned to support museum operations.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework/experience in museum studies, hospitality/tourism, education, communications, or related field preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities with attention to detail.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ability to learn point-of-sale systems and online purchasing/event management software.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as needed.
- Comfortable engaging with diverse audiences and community groups.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout museum spaces.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. for event or exhibit setup.
