Primary Function

The Museum Facilities Specialist is responsible under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager for providing a first-class experience to the Foundation’s visitors, guests, and employees by maintaining the Foundation’s building and grounds with continual care and maintenance.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Education
  • Experience providing maintenance and care for first class one-of-a-kind buildings
  • Prior experience working in a hospitality or museum setting is preferred
  • Ability to read and understand chemical SDS sheets
  • Ability to take and pass the Barnes Foundation associate level customer service training
  • Ability to take OSHA ladder and lift training and pass

  • Criminal Background - National

Essential Functions

  • Moving Ability: Stand and walk for 8-hour shifts with minimal rest breaks. Occasional transportation of up to 25 lbs. of files, equipment, supplies or furniture. Move to access files, equipment or supplies.
  • Vision Requirements: See without obstruction.
  • Communication Requirements: Clearly communicate in person, by phone, and by video conference. Communicate with others in conversational and written English. Hear and work around noise emitting equipment without issue. Communicate on a two-way radio.

Working Conditions

  • Position operates in the foundation’s buildings and on the foundation’s grounds at the Philadelphia campus.

Equipment Use

  • Use of ladders, lifts, manual pallet jack, furniture dollies and powered cleaning equipment

Job Responsibilities

  • Aid visitors, guests and staff providing the highest level of customer service, answer questions and providing information in a welcoming manner.
  • Solves problems in a helpful, polite, and accurate manner with staff and visitors.
  • Read and understand daily work orders and assignments.
  • Adhere to Foundation policies, including those regarding attendance, punctuality, and dress code.
  • Perform tasks to maintain appearance and order of the building and grounds.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning, rest room and break room products.
  • Use of industrial strength chemicals as needed throughout the site.
  • Maintain areas of the building as assigned.
  • Maintain wood and stone flooring with wood and stone care products.
  • Maintain window glass using high reaches throughout the facility.
  • Maintain carpeting daily.
  • Maintain breakroom areas including refrigerators, microwaves, and dishwasher.
  • Moves and arranges furniture including tables, chairs, stage and other furniture and fixtures for events, meetings and office relocations.
  • Set up and take down signage and stanchions. Ensure areas scheduled for events are ready and in proper order before, during, and after event.
  • Receive and distribute mail and package deliveries. Receive, distribute and stock printed material and office supplies.
  • Aids maintenance staff with equipment and building maintenance work. Receive and distribute loading dock deliveries utilizing manual pallet jack.
  • Reports the presence of animals, vermin, insects, water leaks, maintenance needs, and all health and life safety issues to the facility manager.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management and staff.
  • Must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
