About the role

The Chief of Development will lead fundraising efforts for the American LGBTQ+ Museum, including campaign fundraising, board of directors fundraising, individual major gifts, annual fundraising, corporate fundraising and engagement, government fundraising, memberships, donor communications, and donor cultivation events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction, and coordination of fundraising strategies and activities to advance the mission of the American LGBTQ+ Museum.
  • Manage all museum fundraising, including campaign fundraising for a $30mm comprehensive campaign, board of directors fundraising, individual major gifts, annual fundraising (direct mail), corporate fundraising and engagement, government fundraising, memberships, all donor communications, and donor cultivation events.
  • Work with a team of three full-time staff and two consultants to manage fundraising activities.
  • Research and build strong relationships with current and prospective donors to secure significant sustainable philanthropic support.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board, and senior staff to help the American LGBTQ+ Museum achieve its financial goals.
  • Be an integral part of the senior leadership team and key player in the growth and expansion of the organization in donor markets across the US.

Requirements

A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in multifaceted development work with a major metropolitan museum, performing arts center, or arts and culture nonprofit is required. The American LGBTQ+ Museum will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in major gift fundraising (ideally campaign fundraising) in the museum or cultural sector, and will be a high-energy, seasoned development professional.

Skills

Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders are essential.

The American LGBTQ+ Museum offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance with employer contributions, and a 401(k) plan, where the Museum will contribute 200% of an employee's retirement contribution up to 5%. The Museum also provides generous paid time off — 42 days of PTO, 13 paid holidays, and full-week closures in December and July.

Pay

The salary for this position is $227,150. The salary is tied to the Museum's commitment to pay equity. A cost of living increase will be applied annually in addition to any bonus or additional compensation incentive program the museum might develop.
