About the role
This course is designed to give students an opportunity to practice and apply what they are learning in class to real clinical populations. Clinical practicum placements will take place in community centres, hospitals, senior residences, nursing homes, Alzheimer’s and memory clinics, Parkinson’s research and treatment centres, and the UofT Music and Health Research Collaboratory (MaHRC). Examples of activities include performing music, teaching music, leading singing and instrumental improvisation activities, and using music to enhance speech or mobility.
Responsibilities
- Supervision and mentorship of clinical placements
- Facilitation of small group discussions and assignments
- Grading written assignments and providing feedback
- Video-taping student clinical work and processing therapeutic skills with students
- Maintaining records
- Setting up and maintaining email lists
- Distributing email communication
Requirements
- Graduate degree in music therapy or equivalent background
- PhD in Music and Health Sciences or equivalent background

Dates of appointment: September 8, 2026 – April 30, 2027
Hours: 140 total
Class schedule: To be arranged
Pay
Sessional Instructional Assistant rate as per the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. Should posted rates differ from the collective agreement, the collective-agreement rates prevail.
