About the role
As a Multimedia Journalist at Spectrum News NECN, you’ll cover Hartford, CT and surrounding areas. Spectrum News NECN serves MA, NH, ME, VT, RI, and CT, using innovative journalistic approaches to engage and inform viewers on essential news, issues, and events in their communities. Beyond traditional TV news distribution, our newsrooms publish via the Spectrum News app and connected television, providing 24-hour news access across multiple platforms.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of the storytelling process—from pitching and writing to shooting, interviewing, and editing. You’ll work collaboratively to create compelling, timely, and accurate coverage for both traditional and digital platforms.

Responsibilities
- Pitch, research, write, shoot, interview, and edit stories for broadcast and digital platforms
- Uncover underreported perspectives and engage with community members
- Work under time pressure, including breaking news and severe weather emergencies
- Travel within your coverage area to discover and report on important local stories
- Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed
Requirements
- 3+ years of television news reporting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field (or comparable work experience)
- Ability to shoot video, edit using software, and leverage social media effectively
- Strong on-camera presence, writing skills, and verbal communication
- Innate curiosity and urgency in creating compelling stories
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Valid driver’s license for authorized driving in your state of residence
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a 24-hour news environment
Working Conditions
Work is performed both inside in a climate-controlled environment and outside, where you may be exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
