Multimedia Journalist

Responsibilities

• Work cooperatively with videographer if assigned
• Report, write, capture quality visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadlines
• Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about stories
• Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
• Organize material and determine a story’s emphasis, length, and format
• Research and analyze background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
• Gather information about events through research, interviews, experience, or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
• Pitch stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community
• Gather tips and information to develop story ideas
• Check reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts
• Make meaningful and frequent (daily) contributions to the station’s digital and social media platforms
• Revise work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements
• Shoot and edit news events and news reports
• Produce and present reports for all platforms
• Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Write stories for the web and other digital platforms
• Interact with viewers/users on social media sites
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Proven track record of strong storytelling skills, source-building, enterprise reporting, digging and handling breaking news
• Excellent time management skills are a must
• Ability to perform live shots
• The ability to function as an MMJ
• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required
• Flexibility to work any shift
• Ability to carry and setup ENG equipment often weighing 50lbs
• Superior on-air presence
• Able to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Able to shoot broadcast-quality video, edit and feed content back to the station
• Able to work nonconventional hours including early mornings, evenings and weekends
