Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with videographer if assigned
- Report, write, capture quality visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadlines
- Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about stories
- Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
- Organize material and determine a story’s emphasis, length, and format
- Research and analyze background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate information
- Gather information about events through research, interviews, experience, or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
- Pitch stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community
- Gather tips and information to develop story ideas
- Check reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts
- Make meaningful and frequent (daily) contributions to the station’s digital and social media platforms
- Revise work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirements
- Shoot and edit news events and news reports
- Produce and present reports for all platforms
- Ensure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
- Write stories for the web and other digital platforms
- Interact with viewers/users on social media sites
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Proven track record of strong storytelling skills, source-building, enterprise reporting, digging and handling breaking news
- Excellent time management skills are a must
- Ability to perform live shots
- The ability to function as an MMJ
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
- Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required
- Flexibility to work any shift
- Ability to carry and setup ENG equipment often weighing 50lbs
- Superior on-air presence
- Able to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Able to shoot broadcast-quality video, edit and feed content back to the station
- Able to work nonconventional hours including early mornings, evenings and weekends
