Multi-Site Facilities Manager, Alpha - $200,000/year USD
You tour a facility and immediately spot the issues others overlook: the ceiling tile that's come loose but hasn't been reported, the HVAC system making noise for days, the landscaping contractor who completed only half the work yet submitted a full invoice. You don't wait for complaints to surface. You resolve problems before they become visible. That anticipatory mindset defines this position.
Alpha runs high-end K–12 facilities where families expect an environment that is secure, reliable, and presentation-ready daily—not just when special events occur. You'll maintain that benchmark throughout the Northwest: anchored primarily at the San Francisco Bay Area campus, with frequent travel to facilities in CA, WA, NV, UT, OR, and ID. Your execution determines whether a campus sustains its premium quality or quietly deteriorates between leadership visits.
Year one focuses heavily on establishing standards and vendor accountability: defining what "ready" means operationally, implementing the audit schedule, removing underperforming vendors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists to operate within a sustainable framework. As the region grows and your systems mature, the role transitions to consistent regional oversight. You'll become the operational authority the organization relies on for new campus launches, crisis response, and standards refinement.
This is a hands-on field position. If you prefer managing through screens and reports, this role is not suitable. If you want direct responsibility for ensuring 25+ schools maintain premium standards every day—and the authority to deliver on that responsibility—continue reading.
What You Will Be Doing
- Executing scheduled on-site inspections across Northwest facilities using documented standards for cleanliness, HVAC, safety, security, signage, landscaping, furniture, and presentation-readiness, then converting inspection results into confirmed corrective measures.
- Responding to facilities issues and emergencies, coordinating with vendors and campus personnel, and closing work orders only once repairs are confirmed complete (urgent issues within 24 hours, standard issues within 1 week).
- Overseeing local vendor compliance with service-level agreements, terminating vendors who consistently underperform, renegotiating contract terms, and conducting direct accountability discussions regarding quality and expenditure.
- Maintaining a weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists, including clear written updates on regional standards, vendor outcomes, escalations, and capital expenditure tracking.
- Overseeing significant campus improvement projects and establishing global operating standards and AI-enhanced procurement frameworks to ensure consistency across all campus openings and operations.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Operating remotely via dashboards. This position demands consistent physical presence at the Bay Area campus and 30–50% travel to regional locations across CA, WA, NV, UT, OR, and ID.
- Architecting new facilities from the ground up or managing construction project delivery. Capital expansion responsibilities belong to a separate team.
- Establishing company-wide procurement policies detached from field operations. Your standards emerge from direct site observation.
- Working within clean organizational charts with formal authority over everyone whose performance affects your outcomes. You'll create accountability through precision, documented follow-through, and refusing to accept ambiguous vendor commitments.
- Tolerating "presentation-ready only during leadership visits" as acceptable, or allowing reactive crisis management to serve as the standard operating approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain every campus across the Northwest region as safe, premium, and presentation-ready at all times.
Requirements
- Located in the Northwest region (CA, WA, NV, UT, OR, or ID), with strong preference for San Francisco Bay Area proximity, and capable of dedicating significant time to Bay Area campuses with 30–50% regional travel.
- Authorized to work legally in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
- 5+ years managing multi-site facilities, regional operations, hospitality operations, retail operations, or school operations.
- Documented success maintaining vendor accountability for quality, cost, and service-level compliance across multiple sites.
- Hands-on experience addressing urgent facilities challenges including safety, HVAC, security, or cleanliness issues with quantifiable customer-experience outcomes.
- Consistent written operational discipline: issue tracking, escalation documentation, vendor correspondence, and weekly regional performance summaries.
- Verified use of contemporary operations platforms, including AI-supported planning, work order systems, or predictive maintenance technologies.
- Polished executive-level communication and the discernment to articulate operational trade-offs involving safety, premium expectations, timeline, vendor limitations, and budget.
- A forward-looking leadership approach that surfaces issues early and enforces accountability with campus teams and vendors, independent of formal reporting relationships.
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Multi-site operations leadership within premium hospitality, luxury retail, private K–12 education, or healthcare systems serving demanding clientele.
- Experience building or restoring a regional operations framework where the previous model depended on individual heroics instead of documented standards.
- History of terminating underperforming vendors and developing a reliable local vendor network.
- Background overseeing capital improvement initiatives (HVAC, AV/networking, landscaping, interior renovations) in active, customer-facing locations.
- Experience operating in an AI-driven environment where playbooks, dashboards, and predictive tools handle routine tasks so personnel concentrate on decision-making.
