Multi-Platform Breaking News Responder

Duties

• Listens to and responds to police scanners
• Shoots, writes, and edits content from the scene of breaking news
• Produces content for CBS17.com and CBS 17 Plus
• Works closely with the weekend team
• Gathers urgent information on-scene from witnesses and law enforcement
• Creates digital content/web stories for digital platforms
• Ensures all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
• Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Minimum one year experience in local TV news
• Proactive in responding to breaking news across the Raleigh-Durham market
• Ability to shoot, write, and edit using various technology
• Ability to create digital content/web stories for digital platforms
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Flexibility to work any shift
