Primary Function/General Purpose

The primary responsibility of a multi-modality technologist is to perform any two combinations of procedures with related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by, and at the request of, a licensed independent practitioner.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs duties for any two imaging modalities (e.g., XR, CT, MRI).
  • (Ex: ARRT, RDMS)
  • Maintains competence through continuing education and clinical requirements as per regulatory standards.
  • Operates equipment, accessories, and is knowledgeable in workflows, procedures, and processes of the two imaging modalities.
  • Selects appropriate imaging sequences with consideration for approved protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
  • Documents patient's clinical history and ensures availability of lab work for licensed practitioners.
  • Applies safety principles to minimize risks to patients, self, and others, ensuring patient safety, equipment integrity, and image quality.
  • Verifies patient identification using two identifiers and validates orders as required by the two imaging modalities.
  • Performs venipuncture, including starting, maintaining, and/or removing intravenous access, when required by the two modalities.
  • Administers medications/contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, when required by the two modalities.
  • Uses a power injector for medication administration with approved vascular access devices, following manufacturer guidelines regarding infusion rates and pressure.
  • Scheduled for on-call as required.

Licensing/Certification

  • Certification and registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) or CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist) (required).
  • To be competent in two of the following and obtain certification within 12 months: Bone Densitometry (BD), Breast Sonography (BS), Radiologic Technology (R), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR), Ultrasonography (S), Nuclear Medicine (N), Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV), Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI), Cardiac Sonographer (CS), Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI), Mammography (M), Vascular Sonography (VS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).
  • BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH).
  • State licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed).

Education

  • Associate's degree from an ARRT-accredited institute or an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program or an approved School of Ultrasound/Medical Sonography (preferred).

Work Experience

  • One year of experience in a healthcare environment (preferred).

Training

  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred).
  • Picture archiving and communication system (PACS) (preferred).
  • Radiology Information System (RIS) (preferred).
  • IV Contrast Administration (preferred).
