About the role
The University of Miami's UMHC - SoleMia Radiology is seeking a Multi-Modality Technologist 3 to join our dynamic team. This position requires proficiency in multiple imaging modalities and strong clinical skills.
Responsibilities
- Produces diagnostic imaging studies in two (2) specialized imaging modalities.
- Carefully coordinates and manages scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
- Serves as a supervisor and performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.
- Aids in the education and training of new physicians and assists in developing new protocols and imaging techniques.
- Participates in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
- Maintains accuracy in charging procedures and supplies daily.
- Demonstrates equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators.
- Provides in-service classes in the section.
- Ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by the physician.
- Verifies the patient's ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient's wristband.
- Always obtains necessary consents and educates patients.
- Executes complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of Diagnostic Radiologic scanners and related equipment.
- Integrates diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapts exams as necessary.
- Demonstrates complete competence in performing scans as ordered.
- Assists in positioning patients in required anatomical positions for display of body for scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
- Maintains proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).
- Assists radiologists with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
- Evaluates scans for technical quality, collates processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately labels. Film/transmits to PACS.
- Charges procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
- Dispenses radiopharmaceuticals orally, as per approved protocol.
- Loads and operates power injectors for contrast media administration.
- Maintains accurate patient records.
- Provides assistance with orientation and training of new technologists.
- Reduces anxieties, answers questions, and provides explanations of treatment to patients.
- Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/developmental requirements by competency validation checklist.
- Performs basic nursing functions in the patient's care i.e., assists with bedpans, emesis basins, etc.
- Assists in initiating life support measures for patients if necessary; assists in "Code Blue" procedure during medical emergencies.
- Performs CPR as needed.
- Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.
- Reports unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.
- Abides by to hospital/department HR policies.
- Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
- Rotates in the department "on call" schedule where applicable.
- Travel to UM facilities may be necessary.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a Radiologic Technology accredited program.
- ARRT registered in at least 2 modalities: X-ray (RT), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine (NM).
- Valid State of Florida License.
- CPR and BLS certification required.
- Five (5) years of relevant experience required.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
