About the role
The Teacher of Multi-Language Learners plays a crucial role in providing appropriate learning experiences for students enrolled in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Educational Development (GED) programs. They are responsible for creating a supportive environment that fosters the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of students.
Responsibilities
- Develop a positive relationship with students
- Understand and manage the student enrollment process, including application, pre-assessment, initial interview, and placement
- Enforce attendance policies and monitor student progress
- Teach ABE/ESL/GED courses and ensure all students achieve a level gain
- Collaborate with the Career and College Counselor to place students in job or post-secondary training
- Select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet diverse student needs
- Create and implement individualized learning plans for each student
- Counsel students when necessary or recommended by faculty and staff
- Work with the Principal, Counselor, and Career and College Counselor to set and track NRS and State goals
- Maintain accurate records and follow required procedures and practices
- Monitor and maintain student goals on a quarterly basis
- Oversee student counselor assignments and keep accurate records
- Facilitate Writing COA Goals for each student
- Help meet all school goals and utilize available resources such as LACES, Schoology, and email
- Behave in a professional manner and maintain the school's professional appearance
- Maintain high time on task and adhere to physical requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
- Hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Certification as an English as a Second Language Teacher
- Demonstrate knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and effective teaching methods
- Show proficiency in using multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
- Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
- Have demonstrated oral and written communication skills and excellent human relations abilities
Qualifications
- Preferred: Transcripts reviewed/evaluated by a Department of Education approved professional organization
- Required: Completed I-9 form and paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry
