About the Role
This is skilled work at a journeyman level involving installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair of electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilating, and plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures. Employees perform tasks across multiple trade areas, with work reviewed for conformance to specifications and trade standards. Functional contacts include co-workers, university staff, students, and building occupants.
Responsibilities
- Install and construct buildings or areas, including all fixed and movable equipment and fixtures.
- Notify supervisor of tasks requiring other trades personnel.
- Perform skilled duties related to installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures.
- Use a variety of tools and mechanical equipment for operation, repair, maintenance, and installation tasks.
- Prepare cost estimates, material orders, records, and reports.
- Occasionally perform duties outside the primary trade area as workload demands.
- Adhere to safety requirements and efficient use of staff and equipment.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent; demonstrated ability may offset requirements.
- Four years of combined experience in two or more skilled trades, including apprenticeship or vocational training in a mechanical trade, qualifying as a journey-level tradesperson.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, plumbing, and electrical codes.
- Skill in maintenance and use of tools, equipment, and materials applicable to the trades.
- Sufficient strength for occasional heavy lifting and work on ladders.
- A valid driver’s license may be required for certain positions.
- Certification may be required in some areas.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
Pay
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $20.90–$28.00 hourly, determined by education, skills, experience, and organizational requirements.
