About the role

The Staff Medical Technologist will perform various chemical, microscopic, bacteriological, and immunological tests to obtain data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Ensure that the Q.C. and maintenance are performed as appropriate. Instruct new technologists, technicians, and students. Assist with troubleshooting instructions as appropriate. Assist in requisitioning necessary supplies, reagents, and blood components.

Responsibilities

• Perform various chemical, microscopic, bacteriological, and immunological tests to obtain data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Ensure that quality control (Q.C.) and maintenance are performed as appropriate.
• Instruct new technologists, technicians, and students.
• Absorb and troubleshoot instructions as appropriate.
• Aid in the requisitioning of necessary supplies, reagents, and blood components.

Requirements

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree and be a graduate from an approved school of medical technology.
• Certification or eligibility for certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or (AMT) American Medical Technologist.

Qualifications

• To qualify for MT: Must have Bachelor’s degree and be a graduate from an approved school of medical technology. Certification or eligibility for certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or (AMT) American Medical Technologist.
• To qualify for MLT: A High School Diploma or equivalent required. 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination; and Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing. Certification or eligibility for certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or (AMT) American Medical Technologist.
