About the Role
The Staff Medical Technologist will perform various chemical, microscopic, bacteriological, and immunological tests to obtain data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Responsibilities include ensuring quality control and maintenance are performed, instructing new technologists, technicians, and students, assisting with troubleshooting, and requisitioning necessary supplies, reagents, and blood components.
Requirements
- For MT (Medical Technologist) qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an approved school of medical technology.
- Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT).
- For MLT (Medical Laboratory Technician) qualification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution, including either:
- 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, or
- 24 semester hours of science courses (6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination).
- Laboratory training, including either:
- Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved by ABHES or CAAHEP (may be included in the 60 semester hours), or
- At least three months of documented laboratory training in each specialty for high complexity testing.
- Certification or eligibility for certification by ASCP or AMT.
