MSP CADET
Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland State Police Cadet program is designed to recruit individuals who meet the minimum qualifications and are selected through a rigorous selection process.
Minimum Qualifications
- United States Citizen
- Age - Cadet applicants may apply at 17 but must be 18 upon appointment and under 20 years of age at the time of appointment.
- Residency - No requirement to be a Maryland resident, but must become one on the date of appointment.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver's License in any state with a satisfactory driving record, no more than 3 points on the driving record.
- Excellent Physical Condition
- Binocular Visual Acuity of 20/20 with or without correction
- Good Reputation and Sound Moral Character
- No Current Court Orders Relating to Domestic Violence
- Truthful in Every Stage of the Application Process
- Not Eligible for Initial Certification if Illegally Used Marijuana Within 1 Year Before Application
- Not Eligible for Initial Certification or Trooper Position if Illegally Used Controlled Dangerous Substance (Other Than Marijuana) or Narcotic Drug Within 3 Years Before Application
Selection Process
- Completion of the Online Application to the indicated stop point
- Attendance of an Applicant Orientation
- Functional Fitness Assessment Test
- Written Exam
- Submission of the Entire Online Application
- Oral Interview
- Polygraph
- Background Investigation
- MEDICAL TESTING
- POLICE SELECTION COMMITTEE
