About the role
The Minnesota State Academies (MSAD) is seeking a Special Teacher-Language Arts to contribute to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for deaf/hard of hearing or deaf/blind students. The position requires American Sign Language (ASL) skills and follows the school calendar with 3 weeks in July for the summer school program.
Responsibilities
- Contributes to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for deaf/hard of hearing or deaf/blind students.
- Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.
- Works closely with other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Assesses student progress and adjusts teaching methods accordingly.
- Collaborates with families to ensure effective communication and support.
Requirements
- Valid Deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) Minnesota Teacher license or ability to obtain one prior to the start date.
- Knowledge of curriculum, language acquisition, and educational best practices relevant to deaf/hard of hearing students and/or deaf/blind students.
- Experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students.
- Advanced sign skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
- Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred.
- At least 3 years of teaching experience in a K-12 setting.
- Knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
