MSAB Residential Educator 38 hr/weekly

About the role

This position is a 38-hour/week evening shift role in the Human Services Technician classification at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind. First consideration is given to eligible internal bidders; other qualified applicants will be considered if no eligible bidders apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision of students in the residential area at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the residential setting.

Requirements

• A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Paraeducator) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each, or the ability to pass the Parapro or Paraeducator assessment within the first 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting or a similar setting as a caregiver.
• Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand and follow directions and to maintain records and documentation.
• Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide direction to residential students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience/background working with blind/visually impaired students.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance.
• Ability to perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques.
• Must be able to walk/stand for at least eight hours.

Additional Requirements

• Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months.

Schedule

• Evening shift: Sunday 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM and Monday–Thursday 2:45 PM – 11:00 PM.
• Days of work: Sunday through Thursday.

Pay

• Hourly rate: $21.59 – $28.94.
• Shift differential: $2.25 per hour for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
