MS or Assistant Coach/Sponsor
Qualifications
Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports or activity program.
Has desire to provide successful coaching/sponsor experience in an assigned activity.
The coach/sponsor must have some knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport/activity and, at the same time, must continue to work with the head coach/sponsor to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the activity.
The assistant coach/sponsor must serve as an appropriate role model for student through his/her instructions and actions.
REPORTS TO
MS Coaches report to the athletic/activities director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the school principal.
Assistant Coaches report to the Head Coach
SUPERVISES
In several instances, the MS or Assistant coach/sponsor must inform, coordinate, and support the athletic director and respective principal.
JOB GOAL
In support of the organized activity the MS Coach or Assistant Coach instructs students in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
At the same time, the assistant coach/sponsor must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student.
Duties And Responsibilities
Has a thorough knowledge of all the policies approved by the Poplar Schools' Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program.
Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements same consistently and interprets them for staff.
Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels.
Aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
Staff Responsibilities: Performs such other duties which may be assigned by the athletic director/principal.
Administrative Duties: In support of the Head Coach assists in scheduling. In support of the Head Coach assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees. In support of the Head Coach ensures controlled access to buildings/facilities of use at all times.
Student Responsibilities: Serves as a mentor to each participant in promoting the development and demonstration in students the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Gives constant attention to a student’s grades and conduct. By his/her presence at all practices, games, and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant. In support of the Head Coach directs student managers, assistants and statisticians. Assists students in their college or advanced educational selection.
Finance And Equipment: In support of the Head Coach helps maintain all equipment, facilities used, and instills in each student a respect of school and other’s personal property, its care, and proper use.
Public Relations: In support of the Head Coach organizes parents, coaches, players and guests for preseason meetings. In support of the Head Coach promotes the activity within the school through recruiting students who are not currently participating in another program and promotes the activity outside the school through news media, or in any other feasible manner. In support of the Head Coach is responsible for the quality, effectiveness and validity of any oral or written release to local media. In support of the Head Coach is responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans. Presents information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, festivals, and results.
