About the Role

As a Middle School Language Arts Teacher, you will create and implement a flexible program and classroom environment conducive to student learning and personal growth. You will develop lesson plans aligned with established guidelines, build rapport with students, staff, and parents, and motivate students to develop essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge for their educational foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a program of instruction adhering to CSUSA’s philosophy, goals, and objectives as outlined in adopted courses of study.
  • Create purposeful and effective lesson plans that maximize time on task and incorporate real-world, application-based examples.
  • Review student records to understand each student’s abilities and needs; maintain accurate and complete student records.
  • Maximize educational achievement for each student using varied instructional techniques and differentiated instruction.
  • Conduct frequent diagnostic assessments of student learning, provide appropriate activities to address needs, and generate progress reports.
  • Refer students with suspected learning problems to appropriate support personnel.
  • Assign lessons, correct student work, and review oral presentations.
  • Coordinate class field trips as required and prepare students for state-mandated achievement assessments.
  • Stay current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory; contribute to the ongoing curriculum revision process and assist in selecting instructional materials.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests, and maintain positive rapport with students.
  • Ensure the classroom is clean, safe, and displays student-generated work as appropriate.
  • Implement relevant policies governing student conduct and develop reasonable classroom/playground behavior rules in accordance with CSUSA policy.
  • Establish cooperative relations with parents/guardians and communicate clearly and positively via appropriate mediums.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and participate in parent communication activities and extracurricular events to support a positive school culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • Valid teaching certification (as appropriate).
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
  • Command of grade/subject-specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
  • Understanding of and commitment to CSUSA’s values.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
  • Adherence to the requirements of the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.

Work Environment

  • Usual school working conditions; may be noisy during high student traffic.
  • Light physical work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
  • Somewhat stressful due to frequent student activity.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
