Duties
- Teach students on designated case load
- Manage student Individualized Education Plans (IEP)
- Conduct IEP meetings
- Support students skill acquisition and make modifications and accommodations
Qualifications
- Teaching experience in special education
- Hold a Minnesota teaching certificate, with appropriate endorsements in Special Education
- Knowledgeable computer user; familiarity with Student Information Systems helpful
- Solid classroom management skills based on current research practices
- Willingness to work with students with unique backgrounds and skills
- Willingness to be involved in other aspects of the Pipestone Area Schools culture and community
- Team Player and team-oriented thinker
Responsibilities
- Deliver high quality Standards-based lessons to Middle and High School students based on needs identified on an IEP
- Teach and support special education students; collaborate with classroom teachers; plan a program of study; manage IEP's
- Understand the role of SPED teacher working with general education teachers
- Collaborate with colleagues to carry out Multi-tiered System of Supports including Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
- Maintain accurate records of students' grades and attendance
- Participate fully in mentoring and instructional coaching programs, align and deepen curriculum, and improve pedagogy
- Practice and carry out rules and procedures as defined by the Pipestone Area School District
- Participate in staff in-service, staff meetings, department work, committee work, parent conference nights, etc.
- Support the Principal with supervision of students
- Communicate in a positive way to develop rapport with learners and treat them with respect
- Demonstrate a commitment to the school's mission of Inspire life-long learners. Build Character, and Prepare them for their Future
Supervision
The special education teacher reports to the building principal.

Compensation
- Certified staff are compensated according to the current master agreement
- Salary range is $51,000- $80,000
