About the role

The Special Education teacher under the direction of the school principal and/or assistant principal, implements research-based instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of assigned students. Instruction is individualized, adapting to differences in learning styles, rates, and levels.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain competency in subject matter areas and adapt to new assignments as needed.
  • Employ assessment methods to identify student proficiency and develop tailored programs.
  • Strive for positive relationships with students, parents, and community members.
  • Promote and support district goals and participate in educational committees.
  • Develop culturally responsive lessons and supervise instructional paraprofessionals.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and adhere to district policies.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans and maintain digital records.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience: 6+ years with a Bachelor's, 8+ years with a Master's, 3+ years of teaching experience, and Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.
  • Alaska Teacher Certificate required.
  • Abide by the code of ethics and professional teaching standards.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of local culture and ability to integrate it into teaching practices.
  • Proficiency in using Rubicon Atlas for culture-based unit development.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to assess student proficiency and tailor instruction accordingly.
  • Effective supervision and training of instructional paraprofessionals.
  • Adherence to ethical standards and professional teaching practices.
