About the role
The Special Education teacher under the direction of the school principal and/or assistant principal, implements research-based instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of assigned students. Instruction is individualized, adapting to differences in learning styles, rates, and levels.
Responsibilities
- Maintain competency in subject matter areas and adapt to new assignments as needed.
- Employ assessment methods to identify student proficiency and develop tailored programs.
- Strive for positive relationships with students, parents, and community members.
- Promote and support district goals and participate in educational committees.
- Develop culturally responsive lessons and supervise instructional paraprofessionals.
- Adhere to ethical standards and adhere to district policies.
- Submit weekly lesson plans and maintain digital records.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Education required; Master's Degree preferred.
- Experience: 6+ years with a Bachelor's, 8+ years with a Master's, 3+ years of teaching experience, and Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.
- Alaska Teacher Certificate required.
- Abide by the code of ethics and professional teaching standards.
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse communities.
- Knowledge of local culture and ability to integrate it into teaching practices.
- Proficiency in using Rubicon Atlas for culture-based unit development.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to assess student proficiency and tailor instruction accordingly.
- Effective supervision and training of instructional paraprofessionals.
- Adherence to ethical standards and professional teaching practices.
