About the role

An MRI technologist performs MRI procedures utilizing MRI scanners and power injectors to produce cross-sectional and 3D images at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. The role involves performing MRI procedures on humans of all ages (newborn to geriatric) for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes using radio frequencies within a magnetic field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties of an MRI Technologist I.
  • Safely administer contrast or other imaging agents, including identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
  • Assess a patient’s risk for allergic reaction to contrast media and other related medications prior to administration, following appropriate protocols for escalation of concerns.
  • Evaluate lab values prior to administering contrast media or other related medications and beginning the ordered examination.
  • Provide accurate explanations and instructions to patients and families using age-appropriate language, verifying understanding and agreement to complete the ordered exam.
  • Perform ordered exams or therapy in accordance with established imaging protocols while respecting the patient’s ability and comfort.
  • Adhere to policies and utilize protocols to determine that expected outcomes have been met.
  • Document deviations from protocol and/or patient-specific issues that may impact image quality.
  • Notify the appropriate healthcare provider when an immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings, patient condition, or other relevant concerns impacting patient safety or care.
  • Complete all required post-processing, image display, and transfer for physician review in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion.
  • Routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on your level of competency.
  • Demonstrate expertise in routine and complex studies, with a complete understanding of technical standards, scope of practice, department and health system policies, and safety and service standards.
  • Operate imaging equipment, image processing software, instrumentation, and ancillary patient care equipment proficiently.

Requirements

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT), Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB), or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) within the first 90 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
