MRI Technologist- Per Diem

About the Role

Functions under the direction of the MRI Team Leader and Assistant Manager of Radiology. Operates and maintains a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner to obtain quality images from patients with optimal demonstration of anatomic region, which are used by physicians to diagnose the nature and extent of designated pathologies. Participates in the establishment of scan protocol under the supervision of a Physician.

Responsibilities

• Maintains appropriate skills related to patient care and imaging of neonatal and pediatric patients.
• Accesses imaging orders and requests for completeness and accuracy.
• Involves patient/parent/caregiver in care and procedure; introduces oneself and role responsibility, explains the procedure thoroughly, and allows time for questions.
• Provides support and effective communication to other members of the department and healthcare team, utilizing available resources to ensure timeliness and accuracy of requested exams.
• Follows through with notification of appropriate parties regarding any variations or changes to requested exams.
• Provides support to other sub-sections of the department as needed.
• Performs MRI and Diagnostic exams daily across various areas, including ED, OR, Clinics, inpatient units, and offsite locations as needed.
• Ensures all images are of excellent diagnostic quality, including appropriate shielding, side markers, coning, and exposure factors.
• Provides clinical education and mentoring to new Technologists and Student Technologists; evaluates their knowledge and skill levels.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of imaging and related equipment, including CR, RIS, PACS, CD burner, and Nighthawk systems.
• Ensures accurate data transfer between department and hospital systems, including completion and scanning of required forms (e.g., Med Rec., Physician request, Radman request form, MRI safety check form).
• Reports all errors to proper personnel in a timely manner and adheres to all hospital and department policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of an accredited Diagnostic Radiologic Technology program.
• Board eligibility required; must follow ARRT standards of board eligibility and subsequent licensing by the State of Connecticut.
• Completion of a formal MRI Technology program.
• Certified as a Registered Technologist (R.T., [ARRT]).
• Current State of Connecticut Radiographer License required.
• Must be board certified in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) within one year of hire, consistent with Connecticut Children’s standards.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.
